Continuing Professional Development

Shireland Teaching School Alliance is proud to host numerous Continuous Professional Development sessions and events within Shireland Collegiate Academy. This page is constantly updated so please check back regularly.

Shireland Primary Computing

As part of Shireland Teaching School Alliance we support schools with the changes to the Primary Computing Curriculum.

We teamed up with national experts in the field as well as our own outstanding department to offer a programme of support to prepare schools for this challenge.

Safeguarding Training

As part of the Teaching School training programme, the Module One (two hour) session will be provided by Shireland Collegiate Academy’s Safeguarding Manager. The Safeguarding Manager, Ella Savell-Boss has worked at Shireland for eleven years and is an accredited NSPCC Child Protection Trainer. The session will be an opportunity to learn about the following areas and will provide a direct link for continued support regarding safeguarding and child protection.

• Understanding what to do and how

• To identify definitions and categories of abuse

• To recognise signs and symptoms of abuse

• Tools and resources that will support teachers and pupils in setting and   completing flipped tasks

CPD Secondary Maths PD Lead

Shireland Collegiate Academy is proud to deliver the NCETM Secondary Professional Development Lead Accreditation on behalf of the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics).

The Accreditation is designed for those who lead professional development for teachers of mathematics. There is a choice from four possible pathways to accreditation depending on the phases of the teachers with whom PD leads work: primary, secondary, A Level and Further Education mathematics.

NCETM Accredited PD Lead status is gained by successfully completing a three day development and accreditation training programme (PDLDA) which involves face-to-face sessions, coupled with an interim task, leading to accreditation by the NCETM. Once accredited, there is an ongoing re-registration process and support for PD Leads to maintain accreditation.

Building on good practice identified both nationally and internationally, and focusing on key national priorities, the programme provides the opportunity to:

• debate and explore priority areas in mathematics learning and teaching

• debate and explore what makes good mathematics-specific CPD

• share good practice in mathematics CPD with fellow colleagues and become part of a professional community of mathematics PD leads (an online   community will be set up to facilitate networking)

• plan, undertake and evaluate work with a group of teachers as part of an interim task.
